Hello Bend! Spent the day exploring another beautiful area in Central Oregon…the Metolius River! The Turquoise Blue waters near the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery were simply stunning! The kids enjoyed checking out all the fish at the Hatchery & feeding them with the food available from one of the many vending machines. Be sure to bring plenty of quarters as the kids go through the food fast and a cup or bag to hold the food is also a good idea! There are informational signs along the way for a self-guided tour of the facility. There are also several picnic tables on the hatchery grounds and a few trailheads just over the bridge giving you the opportunity to picnic & hike along the river.
A few miles down the road we stopped at the Headwaters of the Metolius River to see where it all begins. A short walk from the parking lot you can see the springs bubbling up from under Black Butte. Where else can you actually see the start of a river? From a small spring to a massive river…Nature at its finest!
On the way back to Bend, we made a quick stop at Sno-Cap Drive-In in Sisters for a freshing & rather large ice cream cone! What a great way to end the day!
