Hello Bend! What’s the best way to close out the ski season on Mt. Bachelor? With a massive party, of course! The sun was shining, the temperature was warm and the band was playing to create a festive atmosphere at the base of the mountain. This is Bend, so of course the beer tents from all the local breweries outlined the perimeter of the beer garden.
The highlight of the day was the annual pond skim event. Adrenaline junkies donned their craziest outfits and wigs, skied down the slopes, and attempted to clear the ice-cold pond waiting at the bottom.
My favorite outfit of the day was Kate’s from The Swig Rig!
Getting out of the water was no easy task, so most needed some assistance….
After each competitor, the judges would score their results….
This was our first time attending the event and we brought the kids. It was fun for the kids to get one last day of snow play in at the mountain before summer!
This is definitely a fun event for the kids as well as the adults. However, if you want to take advantage of the beer garden, you may want to leave the kids at home as no one under 21 is allowed inside
Watching the pond skim event was totally rad! Kids would really enjoy it, but it was packed, with a limited amount of space, so get there early to get a spot up front.
Mt. Bachelor definitely knows how to close out the ski season right. It is such a cool event. We will definitely be back to take advantage of the festivities next spring after a season full of skiing!
Be sure to check out Mt. Bachelor’s upcoming summer activities. The mountain’s summer opening day is Friday, July 8, with a soft opening on July 1. Activities include scenic chairlift rides to the top of Pine Marten, downhill mountain biking, hiking, disc golf and dog sled rides in a dry-land cart.
While at the mountain be sure to grab lunch at Scapolo’s or bring a picnic lunch and soak in the views. Also, on my must do list this summer is the “Sunset Dinner” on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. The perfect way to end a romantic evening is with a moonlit chairlift ride down the slopes of Mt. Bachelor! Sign me up!
Hope to see you at Mt. Bachelor for some summer fun in July & August!
