Hello Bend! The future Children’s Museum of Central Oregon held their first pop-up event last Saturday at the Armature to introduce Bend to the hands-on fun that will be available to our children once the museum opens. Over 500 people made their way through the craft stations & science experiments! Our kids had a blast learning at the various stations throughout the day!
Some of the educational activities included a Pulley Station, Water Station, and Magnetic Fun. My kids were particularly interested in the baking soda and vinegar experiments. They had the opportunity to add all the ingredients themselves and watch the explosive action first-hand!
Of course, the photo booth was also a big hit for these silly kids!
The fundraising station was my personal favorite. For a small donation, you could decorate a tile to be a permanent fixture on the wall of the future museum. Talk about history (and artists) in the making! Although the kids might argue that the face painting & balloon artist were the favorites of the day!
The Sensory Sister’s Sensory Tub gave the children the opportunity for some tactile play, and kept my daughter busy the majority of our time there!
The Children’s Museum of Central Oregon relies heavily on the support and generosity of the community. The goal for the museum is to secure a permanent location near the downtown area and open to the public by next winter. Below is a rendition of what the museum could look like.
Once enough money is raised, the museum plans to offer camps to local children. It is important to note this event would not have been possible without the help of the volunteers that gave their time to make sure each station was a great experience for all. A huge support and presence at the event was the Desert Sky Montessori School, which will open a free charter school in Redmond this fall.
