Bend Soap Company: The Power of Goat’s Milk

Hello Bend! If you’re new to the blog, or just stopping in, we’ve created a “Local Favorites” category to highlight the imagination, diversity, and unique stories behind our beloved Central Oregon small businesses. This week’s “Local Favorite” feature is Bend Soap Company! With their fresh home-farmed Goat’s Milk soaps, they’ve taken the Central Oregon soap scene by storm.

About The Company

Bend Soap Company is a family-owned and operated business that creates amazing, wholesome, all-natural goat milk soap. Here, Dwight and Marilee Johnson and their ten children started the production of goat’s milk soap, salve, lip butters and other amazing skin-care products. The first bars of goat milk soap were created to relieve one of their children’s severe eczema. While trying to help him, they discovered that the regular soap they were using would irritate his skin even more and lotion would make his raw skin burn. Read their full story on their website here.

As their journey to help their son’s skin continued, they learned that not only was goat’s milk a superior ingredient to eat/drink, but when absorbed by the skin, the milk offered a surprising array of benefits. Their famed Goat Milk Soap sports a simple ingredient list of goat milk, coconut oil, olive oil, and palm oil. All of which are natural substances known for their skin-soothing effects. The positive effects of their products go above and beyond synthetic soaps and some of the known benefits include the following:

    • Goat’s milk is full of vitamins, proteins, and minerals
    • Is easily absorbed by the body
    • It has a pH that is relatively close to that of the human body
    • It is incredibly moisturizing and softens skin
    • It’s a gentle yet effective cleanser
    • It soothes sensitive skin

They’re proud to offer customers many options of scented and unscented goat’s milk products at an affordable cost so that the life-changing, skin-transforming benefits of the soap can be accessible to everyone! It’s fun to support a business that makes a great product, at the right price, with super easy access: either order online for a quick shipment, or find them in a store or boutique near you by checking out their website here!

Bend Soap Company Tours

I first got connected with Bend Soap Company when I arranged a meet-up for my mom’s group to tour the facility and pet the goats! It was SO fun, and I highly recommend it for both kids AND adults! Located on a beautiful farm in Tumalo, just a few minutes Northwest of downtown, their tours are FREE.

Before COVID, their 20-30 minute tours were offered weekdays Monday- Friday at 2:00 pm! Call or email to check on current availability! They will also offer private tours for groups of 12 or more if scheduled at least a week in advance– how fun for a field trip or summer outing!
