Hello Bend! We had the pleasure of experiencing the 6th annual Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion show last week. This has to be one of the coolest events here in Bend! The evening looked like a scene straight off the set of Project Runway with designers using materials that would’ve otherwise wound up in the trash bin. It was inspiring to see truly fashionable garments created out of calculators, bike tubes, discarded playing cards, blinds, and egg cartons!
This is a wildly successful fundraiser for the REALMS Charter School. The garments were up for grabs during a live auction…most coveted design raised over $500!
There were two shows to choose from. (That was not real clear on the website) The first show was open to all ages and featured student designers & models. Next year I think it will be a fun event for my kids to experience.
We chose to go to the second show this year, which is a 21+ event. This show featured adult designers and even a business challenge featuring entries from many local businesses. Sparrow Bakery was the winner of the business challenge with their “Egg Carton Eggspress” dress, which was stunning! As I watched this dress go by, it was hard to believe it was truly made of egg cartons!
I was lucky enough to get a few close-up pictures of some of my favorite models after the show. I have to give a shout out to Caleb from Wabi Sabi for getting into character for my photo op!
I recommend making the most of the event by arriving an hour early to get good seats, grab a drink, and check out all the items for sale by local vendors in the “Marketplace”. There is also a silent auction with a wide variety of goodies offered by local businesses. I plan to mark my calendar so I don’t miss this fun event next year. For those of you that follow my blog, I will post a reminder when tickets go on sale!
